Tech-I Executive Summary

The GIST initiative is led by the U.S. Department of State, and the Tech-I competition is implemented by AAAS.

The Executive Summary narrative must be completed online, not to exceed 750 words, and written in English. It should include the information outlined below. In addition to the Executive Summary narrative, applicants are encouraged to include visuals, such as tables, graphs, and/or photos, to convey additional information or to complement the narrative. No more than 2 attachments will be accepted.             

The exact focus of the Executive Summary will depend on the track chosen as explained below:

Explain:

(1) The significance of the health, energy, agriculture, or ICT problem to be addressed;

(2) The potential impact of the proposed product or service.

Scientific and Technical Merit

Innovation

Describe:

(1) The degree to which the proposed product or service is novel and innovative; and

(2) The degree to which the proposed product or service is competitive relative to current solutions.

(2) The degree to which the proposed product and/or service is competitive relative to current solutions.

Technical Approach

Explain the science and technological basis for the product or service idea; describe the prototype (if available) and what science and technology work needs to be done.

Explain the science and technological basis for the product or service; characterize prototype performance. What technology risks remain?

Commercial Potential

Business Strategy

Describe the potential commercial value of the product or service. Describe your market function, and why customers would want the product/service. Describe how you plan to move from idea to startup and how GIST Tech-I funds will be used to catalyze progress.

Team

Describe your current or ideal technical and management team (including you). What expertise is needed to move forward?

Describe (i) the capability of the team (including you) to conduct the proposed work; (ii) the leadership structure and management plan. What support/partnerships do you seek or have?
